Mei is a multidisciplinary researcher, designer based in London. Her work explores multiple dimensions of interactive technology including physical computing, wearables, e-textiles, crafting circuitry, education and cross-disciplinary collaborations.
She is currently a PhD candidate at Queen Mary University of London, exploring how to better support fashion and textile designers to implement embedded interactive systems in their work. Her designs explore ways of translating digital functions presented in traditional hard electronics into soft and flexible materials, with which she looks at design methodologies of crafting textiles and garments with integrated technology.
Mei has done a-year-period ethnographic research in fashion and textile programmes in different higher education institutions in London, observing how technology is currently taught to design students. Her current work explores how to integrate interactive technology concepts with material expertise in textile and fashion education.
